I was born in Atlanta, Georgia, at Grady Hospital, weighing just under two pounds, a fighter from the very beginning. My childhood was shaped by deep contradictions: a mother who struggled with addiction but still pushed the value of hard work, and the absence of a father whose death left more questions than answers. In that environment, I learned to survive, adapt, and carry weight that was never meant for a child.
After high school, I made my way to Texas. It took me more than a decade to earn my first degree from the University of Houston. In that time, I lived a whole lifetime, I got married and divorced, became a father, bought a home, explored countless paths, and found stability in a legal career. But deep down, something still felt missing.
That emptiness became fuel. I kept searching, pushing, and eventually earned my Master of Science degree. Not long after, I stepped into a classroom as an adjunct instructor, and just like that, I found my passion. By the grace of God, the rest is history.
I’ve always been fascinated by the power of influence. It never ceases to amaze me how a single person’s presence or words can ignite change and growth in someone else. To me, there’s no greater or more meaningful way to do that than through education. Teaching isn’t just about communicating ideas; it’s about creating a lasting, positive impact on someone’s life.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of educating in many roles: as a parent, an instructor, a life coach, and a professor. Each experience has deepened my passion for helping others grow. Whether in the classroom or everyday life, education has been the most powerful tool I’ve encountered for personal and professional transformation. Being introduced to something new, an idea, a perspective, a skill, has continually shaped the way I see the world, and I strive to offer that same opportunity to others.
My biggest goal as an educator is to connect with each student in a way that broadens their perspective and encourages thoughtful reflection. I’m driven by a desire to inspire transformation, helping students grow by seeing life through new eyes. I aim to do this by challenging not only traditional research but also their preconceived beliefs. Encouraging students to think beyond the surface—to truly "think outside the box"—helps them develop a fuller, more critical understanding of any topic or issue. I want them to go deeper, ask questions, and engage with ideas that may be unfamiliar or even uncomfortable at first. That’s where real growth happens.
Moreover, I believe that it is crucial to incorporate the "real world" into the communication whenever possible. Nothing is more emotionally compelling than seeing a student mature in knowledge or life right before your eyes. That’s the kind of impact I strive to make every day: encouraging curiosity, cultivating critical thought, and helping students see the world and themselves in new and empowered ways.
